Serial killers? Yeah,
they're pretty neat. Zombies?? They're OK. Psychotic Ghouls??? Eh
... Gimmie some Funny Animals any day of the week!
Funny Animals have been with us a
long, long time. They've existed in a myriad of different formats,
from children's comic books to cartoons to fables to underground and
alternative comics. As humans, we seem to be perpetually enthralled by
these talking, laughing, teasing beasts; many of which would capture us
in a booby trap at the drop of a hat. For whatever reason, they're
refreshing to me. A good Carl Barks strip can really put your mind at
ease, you know? The same goes for these wholesome nuggets of American
history you see below. Honestly, the covers are bright and stunning
examples of the Funny Animals phenomenon as it was in American comic
books of the early 1950's; however the strips within are very standard,
and hence mostly didn't get scanned.
Look at this Nutty Squirrel! How cool is he!?!
